Some celebrations feel larger than the day itself.

For Claire and Leslie, a weekend at the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud brought together people who had travelled from across the world to celebrate them in one of France's most remarkable historical settings.

The abbey became more than a backdrop. Its stone, light and monumental architecture gave each moment its own character, from the relaxed welcome evening to the ceremony and the celebrations that followed.

What made the weekend particularly memorable was the sense of togetherness. Hundreds of guests, many of them travelling from different parts of the world, gathered around a couple whose connection seemed to bring everyone into the same place, if only for a few days.

It was a celebration of scale, but never at the expense of intimacy — a wedding shaped as much by the place as by the people who came together within it.
